T
he Falmouth Folkboats have had another highly successful and enjoyable season
of racing with great results and another boat due to join the racing fleet in 2018.
On and off the water the fleet is certainly making its mark in the Harbour.
Regular racing has been held out of Flushing since the start of the new racing fleet in
2014 and is getting more and more competitive in a mixed handicap fleet to the extent
that new sails are being purchased and more and more optimisation of Sonatas,
GK24s and Contessas in attempts to beat the Folkboats.
In the 2017 season, Mandy Owens helming Aurora (GBR719) crewed by husband
Dave and Malcolm Clark, had a sparkling set of results winning three series including
pursuit races, a Saturday Series and the fiercely contested second Hine Downing.
Tuesday night series at Flushing Sailing Club culminating in winning the overall Club
Boat of the Year across all classes.
Len Trenoweth sailing with wife Teresa and daughter Annie on Gap Year (GBR 705)
won the Choaks Pastie Series in a mixed handicap fleet and the prestigious joint
Flushing/Royal Cornwall Pursuit Series with 34 boats racing. A new set of Norths has
been delivered so Gap Year will be sailing like a scalded cat in 2018.
