avid Mitchell on Aries, helmed by a collection of motley crew had a great second
season learning a lot from more time on the water and managing to win Falmouth
Classics and Falmouth Week. With retirement beckoning and a new set of Norths in
2018 Aries will also be one to watch.
The Carden Clan sailing Pickle (GBR670) out of St Mawes got several race wins
generally in windier races but still have a cranky handicap system to work within. With
two young sons excelling in dinghies, their time racing the rest of the Folkboat fleet is
more limited.
Nigel Sharp in Orzel (GBR209), whilst more orientated towards cruising still joins in
the racing when he has a chance and collected a second place at what must be one
of the most characterful races anywhere in the South West at Point & Penpol Village
Regatta; racing around the mining ground in Restronguet Creek.
2018 looks set to be another good season with former Folkboat owners Mike Robson
and Mike Swingler going into partnership and buying a boat that has only ever been
cruised. She is having a refit and a couple of new sails and will be joining the Flushing
fleet in May and will no doubt be given a competitive and welcome reception and we
are all looking forward to the rumoured re-launch party. Bring it on.
